Workshop Facilitator - Part-time - November 2025

Woolloongabba, Australia

Position Description

Environmental Arts Workshop Facilitator

Part-time Position

Are you passionate about sustainability and waste reduction? Do you consider yourself a creative but organised, hands-on person, who can communicate clearly and enjoys working with groups of people, particularly young people?

We are currently seeking someone to join our Workshops team and help to deliver our signature ‘Eco-Art’ workshops around the Greater Brisbane area.

This is a three day a week, part-time position and the regular hours of work are 7:45am to 4:15pm. The preferred days are Monday to Wednesday though this may be open for negotiation.  On occasion this schedule may be varied to accommodate a particular workshop job, but only with prior negotiation.

The position is a fixed-term 18 month contract, with a six month probation period.  At the end of the 18 month contract, provision of a further fixed-term or a permanent contract will be dependent on the workers progress towards membership/directorship of the co-operative.

The position involves driving the workshop van (an automatic EV) and delivering workshops at schools, early learning centres, community groups and festivals.  Other tasks include preparing and packing for the workshops, co-ordinating our stocks of salvaged materials and keeping the workshop space, tools and consumables in a tidy and functional state.

Availability during the April, June/July and Sep/Oct school holiday periods is essential as these are typically our busiest times, as well as occasional Saturday and Sunday shifts to cater for festivals and special event workshops, though these are generally scheduled months in advance.  Penalty rates apply for weekend work as per the General Retail Award.

Experience running workshops is preferred, though training on how to facilitate our particular brand of workshops will be provided.  We are looking for someone who is capable of working on their own, but also enjoys working as part of a team and has a flexible, adaptable approach to their work.

Selection Criteria:

Essential skills/experience:

    • Ability to deliver a diverse range of art and craft based workshops to groups of people, including young children, teenagers and adults.

    • Interest in, and understanding of, issues surrounding waste, resource use and sustainability.

    • Good team working and group management skills.

    • Good organisational skills.

    • Good verbal and written communication skills.

    • Good computer operation and web skills (our organisational systems are highly web based).

    • Current blue card for working with children, or eligibility to obtain a blue card.

    • Current open driver's licence and clean driving record for at least 5 years.

    • Interest in and willingness to participate in the development of new workshop ideas and techniques.

Preferred but not essential skills:

    • Knowledge of the The Australian Curriculum in Queensland Schools and Early Years Curriculum Guidelines.

    • Workplace experience in early childhood and school environments.

    • Experience working in a co-operative, collective or community based organisation.

Reverse Garbage Queensland is a worker-run co-operative and permanent employment is conditional on the worker's willingness to play a significant role in the management of our co-op, by becoming a director of it.  We anticipate most workers will use the duration of their first fixed-term contract period (18 months) to familiarise themselves and decide if long-term involvement with the co-op is for them.

Remuneration:  The base wage rate is $26.92 per hour and is based on the general retail industry award.
