Slow, Salvaged Stitches Re-imagine the art of sustainable textile creation in our brand new "Slow, Salvaged Stitches" Workshop. Blend traditional textiles with unexpected everyday materials, and transform your approach to slow stitching. Under the expert guidance of our workshop facilitators, you'll explore various embroidery techniques, and alternative ways to use them, as well as appliqué, and stump-work techniques. Work with a range of materials—from second-hand textiles, embroidery threads, and wool, to unconventional elements like soft plastics, netting, foam, twist ties and more. Leave our workshop with the beginnings to your next textile project, as well as the skills to continue on your creative stitching journey at home. This workshop is suitable for ages 13+ and adults Beginners welcome, embroidery hoop and other materials provided. A light morning tea will also be served.
Belt Making Adult Eco-Art Workshop
Buckle up for Belt Making with Reverse Garbage QLD! In this workshop, learn how to handcraft a belt using sustainably sourced leather offcuts + salvaged materials, while also learning new techniques along the way. Our facilitators will teach you the basics of working with leather including basic pattern making, tool use, and joining using saddle stitch, as well as decorative features such as embossing, riveting and studding, all while emphasising the importance of reducing waste and repurposing materials, particularly leather. If leather's not your thing, we will also show you how to make a belt from salvaged synthetic woven straps. With full access to our treasure trove of reuse materials, participants will leave the workshop with the knowledge and skills to continue belt making at home!
